I know it should be Happy Ears on Thursday, but I make an exception today. I bought this movie a couple months ago and I don't know why I haven't seen it until now. Brilliantly adapted to the big screen from Kathryn Stockett's best selling novel, The Help. This movie touched me in a way the best of movies haven't recently. I really think everyone must see, it paints a sad picture of what America was like in the South at the time and it does it in a way that will entertain you, make you think, cry and laugh at the same time.
Emma Stone does a lovely job as Skeeter, the young woman writing the story of "The Help." Minny was played by the lovely Octavia Spencer. She was truly the star of the show. Aibeleen, words can't express what a character she was. Maybe the words she spoke to little Mae Mobley sum up how lovely and loving this woman is.
"You is kind. You is smart. You is important."
Those are the words that every child should be told. Another character you can't help but love is Celia played by Jessica Chastain. She's a little bit of white trash with a big heart. She wants to be high society but she'll never make it, no matter how wealthy her husband is.
I think Diana Stevens said it best, "The Help is high-functioning tearjerker."
P.S. There's one more thing I worship this movie is the vintage dress!
